Fashion Show Venues

MIUCCIA’S MURALS: For Miuccia Prada’s spring show, she commissioned women’s portraits from six contemporary artists. She imposed no constraints on the artists other than “an active, strong woman,” and upon seeing the completed works, was surprised that all painted faces only — and no bodies. Here, the murals.

Musée Chanel?

As if Karl Lagerfeld doesn’t have enough to do—what with the umpteen collections per season he designs for Fendi, Chanel, and his eponymous range—he took it upon himself to create seventy-five giant Chanel-centric artworks for his Spring ’14 set (or, rather, he conceived the pieces, and had them supersized by a team of experts). The assortment of objets included everything from an abstract iteration of a Chanel jacket, to a canvas embellished with the house’s iconic double Cs in pearls, to a marble monument shaped like a bottle of Chanel No. 5. There was even a quilted 2.55 bag befitting Goliath. Was it fashion? Art? Both? Only one thing’s for sure: Last Spring’s Hula-Hoop purse would have looked right at home in Lagerfeld’s epically proportioned galerie.

Louis Vuitton Cruise 2015 held at Palais Princier de Monaco, Monaco.

The seating for the venue was designed by Pierre Paulin and the film shown on the flooring was by Ange Leccia.

A Recent History of Chanel’s Couture Show Sets

Chanel is known for building over-the-top stage sets whose sense of drama rivals, and in some cases eclipses, the clothes. At the house’s fall/winter 2014 couture presentation today at the Grand Palais, however, the setting was more modest, if no less elegant, than expected. Karl Lagerfeld showed his standout collection in a relaxed setting inspired by a 1930s Le Corbusier apartment. Minimalist, intimate-feeling rooms at either end of the space were each adorned with a gold oval baroque mirror sporting the trademark interlocking-C logo, placed over a digital fireplace.

Here, a look at the set, and some of the house’s greatest (and grandest) set designs from recent seasons.
