Love his older work at Dior, love a lot of his more recent stuff as well.

It's all fantastic. Thanks for all the pics!

somehow, i obtained a VHS of the chinoiserie collection A/W 97/98 and although much more subtle, you can tell that the the seeds of the extravagant shows of recent were being sewn way back. I am completely in agreement that Dior is not consistent creatively speaking throughout its empire. However, it's the perfumes and lipsticks and logoed trash that brings revenue for the couture collections and provide art for us and even more pleasure for thpse lucky enough to be able to afford the fantastic creations. Personally my favourite collections were the egyptian one (s/s 2004) and the stunning austro-hungarian princess-y one of a/w 2004/5, I found the recent couture collection lacked substance, too much transparency for my taste. Galliano is undeniably a genius though, and a n innovator too. His seamless dress from an early collection showed how he has a couture state of mind even when designing pret-a-porter. I remain undecided on judging 'Dior' as a whole, but haute couture is for me a precious artform with an uncertain future.

Ehm... The Dior logo print bags and accessories don't appeal to me at all, and I don't think they really appeal to anyone unless they also have a penchant for the Burberry check. :yuk: I do think that Galliano brings drama and fantasy to Dior and while some of his stuff is questionable  a lot of it is truly magnificent :D . x x x

I love the first pic!

I was never interested in Galliano's work since the only collections I've seen from him were horrible. I think that his early couture shows are beautiful, and I loved his latest one too, it was my favorite.

thanks for all the pictures, j'adore. where are you taking them from? i have seen some of them in the galliano book by colin mcdowell and others in 'her style: odile gilbert' but the last set seems new to me or i'm being senile again....
there really was something very vital and exciting about his early dior collections, like a glass of champagne whereas he now throws with bottles...

however, i have to admit i actually prefer galliano before dior:P

some of the pictures are scaned from a Spanish mag called lecturas, especial alta costura or hola alta costura (hello), and pictures that i´ve collected through the years from the web.

for his fall 99 rtw presentation he replaced furry volumes with chunky knits (a huge trend that season), in his collection inspired by Modigliani masks:

for his fall 99 couture catwalk called "The Millenium Show" held on l´orangerie from the chateau de Versailles, Galliano mixed hunting references from the past and the future taken from the matrix, English hunting and still life paintings that inspired those rather controvercial fox and faisans head pieces.
